Update:

At this point, the national Energy Star Homes program has caught up to the MichiganBuild! Standard. As a result, the MichiganBuild! standard has been phased out, and we now encourage anyone interested in energy efficient housing to use the Energy Star Homes program. From the energystar.gov website, you can find lists of builders and raters who can help you build right.

History:

In 2002, WARM Training Center developed the Michigan Build!standard for the affordable housing sector in Michigan. The Michigan Build! program used Energy Star as it's core component, but required additional energy efficiency and air quality measures. The program assisted numerous housing developers (and indirectly many general contractors) in understanding more energy efficient construction techniques and elevated the way affordable homes are built in the state.

In 2005, The Michigan State Housing Devleopment Authority adopted the Michigan Build! standard as a recommended practice for developers.

In 2006, WARM Training Center and Urban Options expanded reach the Michigan Build! standard to make it available to all homebuilders in the state of Michigan.

In 2007, Energy Star reworked its requirements and brought up the national standard to the point that it was comparable with the Michigan Build! Standard.

In 2008, the Michigan Uniform Energy Code was updated to include meeting the Energy Star standard as one method of code compliance for new home construction.
